Abstract Expressionism: This is a form of art in which the artist will express himself through form and color only. There are no actual objects represented. This is often considered to be the first American art movement. It can be divided into two types; Action Painting and Color Field Painting. Action painting involved paining and Color Field Painting was mostly used to explore the different effects of color on a canvas. Alma Thomas is a famous Abstract Expressionist. One of her works:
German Expressionism: Artists usually distort color, scale, and space to convey their feelings about what they see. As War progressed, it harmed many artists and this movement became a bitter protest. A famous artists who used this style was Matthias Grunewald. One of his works:

Op Art: (Optical Art) This is a mathematical themed form of abstract art. Uses repetition of simple forms and colors to create visual effects, confusion, and exaggerated form of depth. Painting uses tricks of visual perception such as manipulating rules of perception and mixing colors. A famous artist who used this is Victor Vasarely. One of his works:
Pop Art: A style of art that explores everyday imagery. It has a lot to do with the contemporary consumer culture. Common sources are advertisement,, consumer packaging, photos of celebrities, and comic strips. Andy Warhol is a leading pop artist. This is one of his works:
